From November 16th to 20th, 2024, the project “Integrating Innovation into Geographical Education and Research for SDG Achievement in Libya” hosted a three-day Participatory Action Research (PAR) workshop in Djerba, Tunisia. The event brought together 31 participants from four Libyan universities—Benghazi, Tripoli, Sabratha, and Zawia—along with representatives from JLU Giessen and an external expert.

The workshop focused on introducing participants to the principles and applications of PAR, emphasizing collaborative approaches to addressing challenges such as sustainable housing, environmental conservation, and community engagement. Through interactive sessions, participants identified key research problems, analyzed underlying factors, and developed tailored, community-centered solutions for their respective topics.

The outcomes of the workshop will guide the upcoming fieldwork scheduled for March 2025, where participants will implement their PAR strategies in real-world contexts. This activity represents a critical milestone in advancing sustainable development and enhancing geographical education and research capacities in Libya.

We extend our gratitude to all participants and partners for their valuable contributions to this successful event.
